Vaccinations
Why Vaccinate?
Vaccination provides protection from a whole range of illnesses, some of which can be fatal. Whether your requirements are for individual, specialist travel vaccines for employees working abroad or for mass workforce vaccination against seasonal flu, Healthcare Connections can help you with the planning and organisation of the vaccination.
Please note that specialist vaccinations may have to be carried out some time before exposure so be sure to factor in a suitable period of time for planning and vaccination.
Our vaccination service caters for small and large groups of employees with our flexible appointment systems and we can offer appointments onsite to you, in our mobile clinics or at one of our nationwide network of medical rooms. The friendly and experienced vaccination nursing team are fully trained in administration and safety procedures and are used to dealing with individuals who don't like needles!

Influenza Vaccinations
Facts & Figures
In any given winter season, between 3 and 18 million people in the UK will become infected with flu resulting in the loss of over 150 million working days. On average, an attack of flu causes 5 days of absence for an employee with an average cost to the business of £666 per year. Flu is extremely contagious and each infected adult may spread the virus to a further four people. In extreme cases, flu can lead to the development of more serious illnesses such as bronchitis or secondary bacterial pneumonia and, in severe cases, can be fatal.
With those figures, it is easy to see why many companies are developing their own flu vaccination programmes as a cost effective way of avoiding increased seasonal absence among their workforces.
By planning early, you can easily minimise the risk to your business from seasonal flu.
The Vaccination
Flu vaccination is an inexpensive, preventative method of avoiding widespread disruption to your workforce. The NHS provides a free vaccination to those members of the public who fall into an 'at risk' category, but this makes up only a small percentage of the working population and on average, 85% of your staff will not qualify for vaccination on the NHS.
Once given, the flu vaccine works by causing the body to produce its own antibodies, which protect it from infection by the three most common flu viruses identified in a particular season.
Flu viruses change from year to year, so new vaccines have to be made every year according to which viruses are more common. This is why the flu vaccine must be repeated annually.

Job Role and Hazard Vaccinations
Whilst at work it is possible that you may be exposed to poor sanitary conditions and contaminated or infectious environments. This can lead to diseases such as cholera, hepatitis A and B, tetanus, rabies and many more.
It is very important to adequately assess the risk to employees prior to exposure and to take the necessary precautions. Measures should include safe systems of working and a route to obtain the appropriate vaccination and medications prior to, during and following exposure.
Typical exposures environments can include:
- Sewage & Construction Workers - Exposure to water contaminated by faeces and to animal bites/scratches
- Travelling Workers - Poor sanitation, infectious disease and insect bites
- Childcare Workers - Bites and infectious disease
For more information please contact us with your requirements.
Travel Vaccinations
The type and number of vaccines required always depends on the countries to be visited. Therefore, it is very important to organise any vaccinations you need at least 6-8 weeks in advance of the trip, so make your enquiries early. Occasionally vaccine requirements change and it is essential to make sure you have up to date information.
Healthcare Connections can help in planning your trip including any vaccination requirements and advice on the appropriate protections (i.e. malaria). Make sure you make arrangements in plenty of time. Contact one of our team for more information on vaccinations on 08456 773002.
Malaria - for employees travelling abroad into areas in which malaria is present, it is important to plan early to ensure that the correct medication is obtained and taken properly as treatment (Malarone) needs to be started prior to entering the endemic area.
