medical services
locations to suit you. . .
Our professional and experienced Medical Team is led by a Rail Specialist OH (occupational health) Physician, overseeing teams of OH Physicians, OH Nurses and Registered General Nurses. This means that we can offer you a wide variety of services, at locations to suit you, some of the main areas of service are explained below.
pre-employment & periodic medicals
A complete pre-employment or periodic (for example bi-annual) medical assessment and report as appropriate, includes a drug/alcohol screen. In many business sectors a pre-employment screen is considered to be ‘the norm’. Keeping regular checks on employee health, via a periodic medical, to ensure the safety of the workforce, and the general public, is a key requirement in certain safety critical industries.
It is important to know the health of a potential workforce in advance, particularly in safety critical industries and as an on-going measure. A cost-effective medical screening programme can work alongside your internal recruitment process to provide you with a seamless route to final appointment and maintain workforce health and wellbeing beyond that. Importantly, the pre-employment screening is scheduled in for you before the onward cost of training and employee set up is incurred; saving you both valuable time and money.
Once you have an employee, you want to keep them and by offering a periodic screening programme, not only are you caring for the health of your employee and therefore your business, but you are also providing your employee with an attractive and considerate benefit.
Our programmes can additionally work hand-in-hand with our full occupational health monitoring, paper-based health questionnaires and the basic health checks, as necessary.

'for cause' screening
Health surveillance screening allows us to look further into the health of your employees and helps to address the impact of the working environment before it becomes a serious, and potentially expensive, health problem. Healthcare Connections can help you to meet the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) and other standards for the required health screening of employees. Typical areas for surveillance include HAVS, Noise Exposure and Working at Night. . .
noise exposure
hand arm vibration
Over 1 million employees in Great Britain are exposed to noise that could put their hearing at risk. The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 means that employers must provide health surveillance for all employees who are exposed to high levels of noise in the workplace.
HAVS Assessments: Hand arm vibration is the vibration transmitted from work processes into workers’ hands and arms,
for example from hand-held
power tools. Approximately 5 million employees are exposed to vibration in the workplace.
When there has been an accident, incident or suspicion of substance abuse
in the workplace, call HCC out to perform an emergency drug & alcohol screen on all persons involved. High-speed result turnaround, collected under full Chain of Custody procedures.
HCC believe that it is absolutely essential to have regular hearing surveillance in place in any business that has a high level of noise exposure. Without the proper occupational health measures an employee’s hearing can be left to deteriorate overtime unnoticed and noise in the workplace can even lead to noise-induced hearing loss.
This vibration exposure can cause hand arm vibration syndrome (HAVS or ‘vibration white finger), leading to ill health (including painful and disabling disorders of the blood vessels, nerves, joints and muscles of the hands and arms).
Under the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005, as an employer, you must assess and identify measures to eliminate or reduce the risk from exposure to hand-arm vibration, so that you can protect your employees from risks to their health.
HCC operates a comprehensive programme for the surveillance of HAVS based on the five-tiered assessment system.

construction services

However, this can be simply avoided! HCC provides audiometric surveillance programmes and screening services, ranging from basic hearing checks to a full exposure plans. By implementing programmes like ours you can catch the warning signs as early as possible and prevent any further damage occurring.

working at night
The Working Time Regulations (1998) implement the European Working Time Directive into British law, these regulations state that it is your responsibility as an employer to regularly make health assessments available to all individuals whom you ask to work at night.
Healthcare Connections offers these assessments out either via onsite clinics or with our simple paper-based health assessment. Our initial paper-based ‘self-declaration’ assessment is particularly popular as it enables the HCC medical professionals to perform a quick and cost-effective check for you. These checks make sure that there are no ill effects being experienced by nightworkers and confirm if there is any reason why an employee should not be performing night duties.
Other health surveillance items offered by HCC include: Lead level testing, skin assessments and confined space worker medicals. Please contact HCC for more information on these items or if you have any specific surveillance requirement.
other services
Basic Health Checks
Simple checks can be performed for you, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and lung function at your place of work. This is a great way to promote a healthy lifestyle to your workforce and any potential problems found can be referred by HCC to the employees own General Practitioner, or to one of our specialist occupational health physicians.
These checks are very simple and quick to perform, so the HCC nurse(s) can see a lot of your employees in one day, so this service is an extremely cost-effective way to positively promote health in your workplace. For this reason we have found this service to be particularly popular during the annual European Week for Safety & Health at Work.
Executive Medicals & Wellman/woman Checks
HCC offers a broad base of medical assessment that can be adjusted to meet specific job role requirements. Each medical is designed to act in the interests of preventative health, and our assessments extend from simple doctor and nurse led full body assessments, to top end state-of-the-art screening programmes (including MRI scanning, extensive blood work, ultrasound examination and future health risk assessment).
